River Avon with Priory ChurchChristchurch's spectacular location at the edge of the Dorset Heritage Coast and on the shores of its own natural harbour makes it the ideal place for most watersports and water-based activities. There are a number of public slipways - in the town centre, inside the harbour near the "Run" where the harbour meets the sea and in Mudeford.


hobi cat sailing in Christchurch Harbour Christchurch is well-known for its excellent sailing water in the sheltered waters of Christchurch Harbour and on the four square miles of usable race water in Christchurch Bay. Highcliffe Sailing Club, Christchurch Sailing Club and Mudeford Sailing Club regularly host racing events, championships and national regattas which are open to members and non-members.

Highcliffe Sailing Club is now recognised as a nominated training camp for the 2012 Olympic Games.


Windsurfers travel from all over the UK for the wave sailing at Avon Beach. Wind-blown waves can be created within a few hours by sea breezes, so wherever there is a wave you will find surfers and bodyboarders. The water quality along Christchurch's coastline is tested regularly from May to the end of September.


Windsurfer in Christchurch HarbourExpert tuition is available, and within a few hours you can be taught the art of windsurfing, powerkiting and powerboating. Lessons, watersports equipment, clothing accessories are available from Crazywater in Highcliffe.


Avon Yamaha RIBIf you fancy an exhiliarating blast around the open sea, RYA Power Courses on superb Avon RIBS in Christchurch Bay are available and also RIB courses which combine theory and practice with as much time on the water as possible.

kyaking in Christchurch HarbourIn recent years the sport of sit-on-top kayaking has become very popular and the waters of the rivers Stour and Avon are perfect for paddling and exploring by kayak or canoe.
