Walking
Christchurch has an extensive range of guided walks and tours for you to enjoy and discover more about Christchurch's fascinating heritage and natural history.
From guided tours around historic buildings such as the Priory Church, Red House Museum and Highcliffe Castle, a heritage Christchurch Harbour Boat Cruise, ghost walks to trails and talks at our beautiful nature reserves, there's something to suit most ages and abilities.
If you prefer to discover Christchurch's heritage on your own, the Millennium Trail leaflet is available on-sale from the Christchurch Information Centre.
Christchurch also promotes healthy walking so why not check out the Christchurch Strollers and Christchurch Health Walks programmes of walks? They take place regularly and are free of charge. Also, if you are interested in getting healthier through walking see 'My Get Walking'.
The 2.4 mile Christchurch Coastal Path extends from Highcliffe cliff top to Highcliffe Castle, a magnificent Grade 1 listed mansion set in attractive cliff-top grounds, and then through Steamer Point Nature Reserve to Mudeford Quay.
There are also several Ramblers groups in Dorset and Hampshire. To find walks in the Christchurch area, open to the public, visit their UK Ramblers website or the East Dorset Ramblers site and search 'BH23' in the simple search facility.
For more energetic walkers, Christchurch is also located on the route of the Avon Valley Path and the Stour Valley Way. The Purbeck Plod is also very popular with keen walkers and The Long Distance Walkers Association also has an extensive events listing in the local area.
