Coast
Christchurch's predominantly sandy beaches extend for 4 miles across Christchurch Bay from Highcliffe in the east, to Avon Beach and Mudeford Sandbank in the west and each has its own individuality.
Christchurch's beautiful coastline and harbour can also be enjoyed from the water as a variety of ferry trips and boat excursions are available from Easter to the end of October.
Seasonal ferry services operate across the The Run from Mudeford Quay to Mudeford Sandbank and from Christchurch Quay across Christchurch Harbour to Mudeford Sandbank.
Friars Cliff Beach in Christchurch won a Quality Coast Award for 2011 from 'Keep Britain Tidy'. The Award recognises the high standards achieved for cleanliness, facilities, water quality and safety at the beach.
From May to September the water quality at our beaches is checked weekly by the Environment Agency and fornightly by Christchurch Council.
